Default Gil manifolds on ebay???

I boaught a set last nite. Look like new , 40 hours , inc . stainless riser , all brakets and new gaskets. $900.00. Seems like a good price.
My ques.are ,
-any good hints for the install?
-will I have trouble with the old bolts[ 10 y/o engine]
- all the brakets will come with the manifolds , will the existing adjustments on the linkages be close , or will I have to redo them
-any ideas for prying off the rubber hose from the diverters without wrecking it.
thanks guys...sj

stevejohns,I just insalled a set on a 1990 and had no trouble with the bolts. The existing adjustments were close, but I must say I hate Gil brackets. I spent $2300.00 on mine ,and the brackets are just a square piece of steel painted black. Oh well,I think all will go well with the install for you.Gil's are pretty much trouble free installations.

Good luck, you should gain a few MPH'S too........

The entire shifter bracket plate unbolts from the stock riser. The adjustment does not change. The plate and electrical connector will bolt back up to the Gil bracket just fine. Or you can relocate the shifter bracket plate to the transom, etc.

As far as removing the hoses, On a 10-yr old boat, just go ahead and figure rpelacing them with new ones (or the pretty blue silicone ones). To remove the originals with no risk of damage, you can take a hacksaw and cut mostway thru the hose in a spiral from front to back. Then you can pry the hose off and it will tear on the cut like a Hungry Jack biscuit tube.

As far as the old manifold bolts, if a freshwater boat, they should come out cleanly. They are 3/8-16 bolts and you should use nevr-seez on the new ones (use new ones with the Gils, and use Grade 5 cad plated ones).

One or two mph is realistic. More is iffy.
