Imco said they switched from Royal Purple to Torco in their race boat and liked it better. They said they didn't like redline as well. They said merc, redline royal purple and torco were all good oils for recreational boats.
they said they run their boat at 6100 to 6200.

Was using Shockproof and had no shavings. I destroyed drive on rock and merc dealer said what is this red stuff? I said shockproof. He said, "You don't want to run that." and he filled it with Merc HP when repairs done. I went home and changed back to shock proof. Shockproof is very thick, so it be easier on the gears when I am plowing out of my shallow ass marina.

been using hipo merc (the green stuff) on a 1989 drive.
I'm very hard on my boat. Last year I hit a log and broke the ring and housing on the transom unit. I had the drive torn down for inpection, and was told to put it back together and run it another thousand hours!
