Need cam help
Ive got talldeck 540s, with big brodix heads, 10.2.1 comp, 1150 dominators, cam# not sure, but on the dyno they pulled 650tq, 620hp i think the cam is the problem the builder says the heads are the prob. The heads are 365 i think is the number. I think the builder used some 500efi cams, im just wondering why these didnt make 700hp as to thats what i wanted and stated to the builder. So if any of you guys have some 540s single carb no blower please give me your cam specs so i can compare to see where i went wrong.

I'm pretty sure the 500 EFI cams are very close to the hp 500 cams. If thats true then the cams are your problem as they would be fairly small for your build. The 525 cams are quite a bit more powerful and would get you better results. The best thing to do would be to call Madera and have him spec out two cams. If your going to replace the cams with new roller cams the price will be the same if not a tad less and your engine would be optimized for how its built.

I did not dyno the motor. But I had a crane cam in it and it would only pull to about 5400 rpm. I put one of Bob's cams in it and it would pull strong to about 5900 rpm. That was the only change I made.

Them little baby cams are holding you back, I made 657 hp with my 8.4-1 540s (less than ideal compression) with blower belt off with a cam from Bob Madera, with 10-1 compression and a cam ground optimized for running N/A I would expect a easy 700 hp, Smitty
