my teleflex steering box in my 99 checkmate has a lot of slack in it. has anyone ever taken one apart and is there anyway to adjust or fix this problem? was thinking of adding an add-on hydraulic steering but with this much slack in the box it seems useless. full hydraulic isnt in the budget now especially when lookijng to move up to bigger boat this winter. boat only runs mid 60s so full hydraulic doesnt seem neccesary. (i know i know Audacity )

Same thing happened to my previous boat. Took apart the rack and there was no easy way to adjust it. Replaced the rack unit which is the helm and about a year later the slack was back. Later I was told by someone that you can get a rack unit that has two cables. With the two cable system you can adjust the cables in opposite directions against each other and take all the play out. My new boat came with dual ram full hydraulic and boy what a difference. I will have this system on every boat I own from now on.
