Valve Problem
Hi,
Hope you are well on your way to fixing your problem. The issue you have described is what we call in the industry a "tulipped valve" it usually is the result of a mismatched or wrong spark plug, improper timing, etc. or something that caused that cylinder to go lean (excessive cumbustion chamber temp). It actually occurs quite often.
An easy way to check for this condition without removing the head is to lay a straight edge across the valve stem tips and look for one or two higher than the rest.
If no other damage is present it is perfectly acceptable to just lap in a new valve and go.
If you need any further help, I'll be glad to try, just email me.
Regards, Mark

I went over it all and it looks like the new valves coming in will take care of it. I'm just waiting for parts to come in now... should be back together in a week or so.
I agree, the outcome looks like that of a hot cylinder. The exhaust valve was tolerant of the heat... I'm replacing it as well just to be safe. I have a new set of Ferrea Competition Plus valves on their way here now (I'm replacing the Manleys on both heads).
