BAD-HABIT

Well after reading that Denniss Moore in his book recomended them I tried one and I was really impressed.....Picked up .6mph!!! Cheapest HP I have gotten yet...My boat normally needs about 20hp per mph. Just thought I would pass it along. Im running the Stub-Stack with a K+N flame arrestor on a late model SBC......Any body else try these things??

That's interesting results. Did I read that right .6mph not 6 mph ?If so , a slight breeze or a couple degrees of trim can make that much difference. There's so many variable's with a boat .6 is hard to justify .I tried just a K&N , no stub stack and saw no change. Then put a 540 under it and picked up 18mph . But if you're happy don't let me rain on your parade

Yeah it was ONLY .6mph...But hell my point was it was cheap! It probally only took 2-3minutes to install. I made three runs before install,three after and two after taking it off. All in a span of 30 minutes. The gain was steady at .5 to .6mph. I know my tank takes about 20hp to see a gain of 1mph. Some of you guys seem like you only need 10-15 hp per mph....If thats the case hell It still works out even cheaper! I picked up about the same amount going to the K/N arrestor last year. Acutally it was about 1.5mph total with the Stack. Considering the Stack was only about $30.00 I was thrilled. In my book thats CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!! Im just a poor white boy and when something comes along this easy and cheap well I just wanted to pass it along. Hell I put about 100 more ponies in my Formula and have only seen about 6mph...

K&N claims it makes a 750cfm carb move 830cfm. I noticed a little better throtle response and had to go up a squirter size on the front. The increase you saw may indicate you were a little rich to begin with.The other thing I like about the stack is that it reduces the chance of fuel pouring over the top of the carb in the event of a stuck float. Not that anyone here would ever run an automotive carb on a boat...

Yeah , you're right , $30 is cheap when it comes to boating! And I already have my K & N 's for the 540's I got coming (with 1050 Dominators). Not CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP

where did you find that air cleaner??? can you point me in tht right direction??

I have the K&N stub stack air filters. When I was dynoing my 540's, we put on the stub stack and picked up 3-4 more hp over and "open" carb.

I stand corrected---I do NOT have the stub stacks but rather the K&N's with the short velocity stacks. Sorry guys---didn't mean to mislead.

Here's question, I have a Nikerson Holley worked card with the choke area ground off on a blower, wouls I see a difference with the stub stack? I already have a K&N filer.

I doubt you would see any difference, probably a loss because Nickerson already does this with his grinder. That's how he sells re-worked 850s as 980s!
