Default quadrajet idle tuning question

Boat is loading up at idle in no wake zones and wants to stall and transom gets dirty quick, what should I work on first, primary jets or enrichment screws on the front of the carb? I increased the primary jet size by one when rebuilding the carb for the increased hp motor. Motor went from 454/365 to 454/450ish. Thanks for any help.

You should be able to clean it up with the screws. If not check to see if float level is correct. Also if you have any long crank problems you may have the core plugs at the bottom of the bowl leaking.

Thanks Ted, no problems w/ long crank, just starts sputtering when in no wake zones and seems a little flat taking off. Wanted to start out a little on the fat side and it looks like I am.

Did you gain 85 horsepower by changing the jets only? It should be that easy.
Seriously, Try the idle air screws @ between one and two turns out.

It's time to buy that 38 Top Gun you've been dreaming about. First off, we need to verify the timing before making any changes. Give me a call at your convenience. And yes, the Oshkosh airshow was awesome. The Korean War-vintage F-86's really beat up the airfield.

Floats in the quadrajets are always going bad. They want to sink. Check it out.
