I just saw that thread was about a 502 so is a little different. You need to see what the fuel pressure for a 496 is supposed to be, just to make sure 42 is right.

I called marine power and they said 42 psi before I checked what psi it was.

crank trigger its in the back top of the engine block,, if you have two engines swap them and see if the problem goes to the other engine

Well only one motor. I forgot to say this is on an airboat, which shouldn't matter it's the same motor ether way. I thinking I'm going to pick up a crank sensor and try it, they are cheap.
