KC Baja,
It ran fine before the plug and wire change? There was a post a while back about some wires causing to much noise for the merc knock sensor. The sensor detects a knock and retards the timing. I'll try to find that post for you.

Thanks Candyman...
I think it's time for a trip back to Napa. The wires I used crossed-referenced directly with the merc numbers. I saved the old wires, so I'll try them again and see if I have the same issues. The problem is, is that I can only get out on weekends. So its work on the boat during the week and test on the weekend. This makes for a long trial and error period...

Regardless, does the oily fluid leaking from the coil pose a problem also, or is this normal?

KC Baja, concerning your coil... The oil that is leaking out has
one purpose. That is to keep the coil cool. Besides it leaking
out and making a mess, it won't create a problem until the
oil level get too low and the coil cannot keep cool. When the
coil overheats it will just cut out and not work, or possibly fall
down in voltage output., thus your motor quitting or being
down on power. Could very well be your problem.
Personally I would go with an MSD Blaster 2 coil P/N 8202. They run about 30.00. I can get on out UPS today for you if you need.
800-772-2678 ext 239 (We buy direct from MSD)
Someone pipe in and help out in case I'm leading KC Baja in
the wrong direction.

KC Baja- Never mind on the MSD#8202. I would go with
# 8222. It's the same coil but a high vibration resistant unit.
It is potted with epoxy which eliminates the oil for use in
dirt track racing and marine use where they get beat to heck.
You wouldn't need to worry abouth it ever leaking. Of course
it runs a little more at about 40.00. You could probably get
away with a Napa brand or OE quality for less and would be
comparable to your stock unit.

Chadd... Thanks for the advise. I'll give you a call. BTW: is there any reason why your half of Summit prices!!!

...Just kidding, your right on track and I get to support an OSO member. If you read this before I call, the 8222 connection looks different than what I have. My connection looks more like the 8202.
Thanks,
Travis

KC- If your looking in a Summit catalog they might have
the wrong picture next to the part number. The only
difference in the two tops is the high vibe (8222) is
made of an alkyd material that is a little stronger than
the other. Both have the "female" style tops that look
like the old points style distributor caps.

KC- Now I see what they did. I went onto the Summit website
and see they put the Blaster 3 coil picture under the high vibe
coil description. Don't pay attention to their picture.

Default Thanks Chadd!!

Ordered the new MSD coil from Chadd yesterday, should be here on Monday. that's OK, I will be out of town this weekend anyway.
We'll give this a try and hope this will cure the problem. I miss seeing 68 mph and looking to bump 70 once it's all adjusted and running right. I'll post more here as soon as the results are in..

Thanks OSO for all the help!!!

KC, if the coil doesn't help make sure you try the old plug wires like you said you were going to. Basics, what did you change before it broke! I have chased down many a problem only to feel stupid at how obvious the answer was all along. Hope you get it straightened out.
