While my motor is out....
Hi everyone, while my motor is out of my seebold I have some fiberglass work to do and then plan on freshening up the paint. My question is what else should I address in the motor well while everything is accessible? Gaskets, gimbal seals etc. Its a 454 bravo1 if that helps. Also anyone use the Magic implement paint from tractor supply in there bilge?

Speaking from some experience, anything that you don't want to fix after the engine is back in. Now would be a good time to check all hoses, wiring, bilge pumps, cables, anything that could cause a problem or is questionable. As for the paint IDK never used it. Randy

I would check out/replace your gimbal ring swivel shaft seal at minimum, those will tend to leak after they get old and a lot of times because the swivel shaft itself gets corroded and tears the seal. The Mercruiser Sea Core outdrives use a stainless steel swivel shaft. You can also get a stainless steel swivel shaft from JR Marine. You could consider adding engine compartment lights or a extra house battery if you don’t already.
