Default fuel pump vent line

My fuel pump vent line has never been hooked up. It is a clear line that comes from the mechancial fuel pump. It will fill if the diaphram leaks in the fuel pump. My edelbrock carb (carter)has an attachent on the side near the fuel inlet that I believe goes into the fuel bowl. The current line on my fuel pump is too short to reach the carb but I beleive that line is suppose to go back into the carb.

I am thinking about putting a longer line on the fuel pump and running it back into the carb.

Does this sound right?

Thanks for your help

Sounds right to me. I know on my stock Weber carb, the fuel pump overflow tube connected to somewhere on the carb. Can't remember exactly where though.

Usualy the vent hose goes to the flame aresstor. If the fuel pump diaphram ruptures, the excess fuel is supposed to dump in to the carb, making the motor run rich, and letting you know you have a problem.

Mine runs into the flame arrestor also on my holley carb, but on the factory Merc Weber(same as Edlebrock) it connects directly to a port on the carb.

Mine run to the top of the arrestor, but also, the tube on the arrestor has a small "X" block in it. When one of my Carters went out 2yrs ago........and this is true........a very small thin fortune cookie paper piece saying "Fuel Pump Failure....." was actually up at the filter outside top. (not to say that lots of extra fuel in the oilpan was a quick hint). Kinda like a see-though fortune
