Not uncommon. Most Dart heads and others do not share that odd shaped large GM pattern Rectangle port either.

Well... update as of now... engines built and running great! besides stopping at 5400 and boat going slower then before....not a happy camper.... might be 700 hp if I can get them 6000-6200, but was hoping to spin my little 25 3 blades and now they actually spin less then my old combo.....

I didn't dyno due to time and money, but my combo is this, 540CI 9.6:1 with AFR 325 heads with CNC bowl and chamber, cam is 241/[email protected] and 681/663 lift on 112, Johnson lifters, 1.7 Scorpion rockers, single plane intakes and 1050 Quick fuel carbs.... this combo should EASILY be making 650+ HP and enough TQ to carry my heavy Mistress to at least the same speeds I saw with old power and more... but that's not happening....

I am making sure there are not stupid issues holding me back but it don't look like it as of now, air fuels run mid to low 12's across whole power range up to WOT, I run a full time wideband so I am not guessing, not on rev limiters, fuel pressures 4-6 psi at all times, airflow to hatch is good, even ran with hatch open a few inches, gutted flame arrestors and all... timing been at 32-34-36 with no changes....the last thing I am doing is adding EGT gauges to see for sure about ignition but I don't see it being issue.....

old combo was 565 CI with 9.5:1 and 320CC pro comps, cams were 236/[email protected] and .578/.578 on 114, stock gm lifters, erson rockers 1.7, same intakes and my HP500 carbs (800's) boat easily went 73.5 @5500 all day long never skipped a beat until it tossed a rod, now those engines had tons of issues but somehow made power that I just don't have anymore....they dynode at 598HP@5200 and 661TQ@4400 and carried boat to 5500 rpm easily.....

I am not 100% sure yet, but I really feel the new engines don't make the TQ to carry this heavy boat to proper rpm range to get props spinning.... that really is my gut feeling and that hurts after spending 30,000 to go SLOWER then before, I guess at least I have some real nice parts and a slower boat that should be reliable, but man that sucks... a 74-75 woulda been nice after all that effort...I don't think a dyno would tell me much as far as the issue because I truly think a dyno and being in boat are 2 different issues... bottom line is I should have gained something over what I had.... hope I can really figure it out, if not they will probably come n=back out AGAIN over winter to dyno and make them run what I need them to.....sucks really bad this should have been a no brainer build.....

H/R cam I assume?
Who spec'ed that cam for you? Would love to see that cam card.
Just because you have the lift doesn't mean you will make the h/p.
At least you have the correct heads, what valves are in them? 2.25 2.30? Not a choice I would make for 540" that you want to run at 6000 but they will work.

Bob M cam..looking back I think I would have went less lift to be easier on valvetrain, live and learn also... there are a few things I would have done different...2.30 valves

I guess it might just be what it is, I am hurt and broke lol, I do still have to verify a few things but I don't see much gain if any to be honest

There are a ton of 540 combinations with this cam. Alex Haxby, MER Performance and Orlandi Performance don't have any trouble using the cam. The combination makes between 690-700hp.
