500EFI Cam Specs
I am sure the info is on the board somewhere but I couldn't find it.
Does anybody know the cams pecs for the standard 500EFI engine?
Is it the same cam as the 500 HP carb motor?
I know Merc charges almost $700 for a replacement so they must be gold plated.
Thanks!

No. It's not the same as the carb.
The EFI cam is 224/232 .576/.598 112
The reason why Mercs parts are so expensive is because (in this case) the cam comes from Crane, then through GM, then through Merc then to your dealer.

You can contact Crane they will tell you the part # so you can shop around. If you have the old cam they will take it as a core and send you a new one for around $250.

DaveF, I was led to believe the HP EFI cam was 230/236...114LSA...109 Int C/L-Lot's of overlap for that manifold and thus, the dirty transoms , idle instability and gas in the oil. Acam with the specs you gave would be a more suitable cam, I agree. Has there been a change? If you are right, I'm really going to feel bad as I've had a custom cam [Crane] made @ 226/232,114lsa,112 Int C/L...lot's of work for such little differnce!!! Can someone clarify? Thanks,Berg

I read that some time ago.
What stuck out most in my mind was the HP500 carb cam was a:
222/230 .576/.598 110 105. I know that for certain.
I remember thinking that they only changed the lsa and made up for it on the duration and if I remember correctly a 107 icl from the 105.
These changes would help for idle quality for the EFI system and still create 500hp like the carb cam.
Check up on me though, I could be wrong

I am by no means a expert on these numbers! I did do a lot of research before I made my choice for my carb motors. I'm looking at a Spec Card that Crane told me was for the EFI and it is showing 230/236 114LSA Lift is 598and610.
The Crane # is 169621 I hope this helps.
By the way I ended up with a #168731 for my carb 500's with head work and am very happy with the results. Scott

Scott is correct, the Crane Part Number for the 500EFI is #169621.
The specifications are 230/236 Duration, 298/610 Lift on a 114 Lobe Center.
From there, Crane recommends:
#16HR00004
236/244 Duration, 610/632 Lift on a 112 or 114 Lobe Center
#16HR00070
240/248 Duraiton, 621/632 Lift on a 114 Lobe Center
Although you would need some head work or displacement to take advantage of these other cams....

And has anyone tried this cam in a 502 mag mpi? I am rebuilding mine oner the winter. I want to keep it very turn key and trouble free, just curious if I could go a bigger can on a stock 502 Mag MPI without any issues.
