26 CHECKMATE,

What state/city are you from? Perhaps someone can direct you to a reputable drive repair shop in your area.

it sounds like the cones on the top and bottom of your gears are starting to wear, very common with all of them....is there metal in your drive oil,not your resevoir,or is there just a brass colored shavings.....big difference....

I will have to check the serial number when I get home from work tonight. I live about a half a hour North of Baltimore, is it hard to do this type of repair yourself? This coming up weekend I will drain the oil and see what it looks like. Do you think the drive will last for a little bit longer until summer is over?

look for the metal on the magnets and look at the drive oil for metal content. I had on drive assembled with the gears out of phase and it would do that on the input shaft.. not the prop shaft. You can pull the top cap and back plate and see if the things look ok.. I would pull both plugs, some fine metal dust on it is not unusual. Chunks indicate a problem. Smell the oil to see if it smells burnt. You may make the end of the summer and you may not. YOu can refill and look at your magnets again after a couple of hours of run time.. more metal.. real problem.. no metal.. keep running and checking.. no guarentees.. but that is what I would do..

Good luck.

Dick
