Sounds good. Since you are a big SBC guy, if my oil pressure actually is in the 70's at fast cruise, with 30w oil, is that a problem? I won't know till later, but it was last year with the same oil type at the end of the season only though.

No problem with the psi. Straight 30W is pretty thick, don't let the 30 make you think otherwise.
Chances are, your guage isn't all that accurate, but not biggy either way.

When I start out - cruise speed until things heat up well, my psi is about 65psi with stock GM sbc oil pump. I use 15w40 99% of the time in all marine sbc's. SOmetimes VR1 20-50 when I'm going to be testing for a few week-ends or all summer. Testing = beating the living crap out of it. LOL.

Cool - I am changing the oil anyway tomorrow since I have been cranking it so much as TG pointed out. I think I will just use the 15w-40 or 10w-40 that my marina stocks. I don't remember the brand but it is synthetic.

Hopefully the timing cover held up so I don't have to pull that heavy piece of iron out again. Too bad I molested this poor engine so much when I had an electrical problem all along lol. I had it sealed up so nice

I wouldn't sweat the blue smoke too much since you have been pouring fuel down the intake to get it to start. Typically that is black smoke but I would run it out a couple of times before getting concerned.

All Volvo gas side recommend now 10 w -40 of course their brand syn motor oil. Just saying. They changed from the 30 w motor oil to the 10 w -40 about 2 years ago.

Run Chevron Delo 15 w -40 you will be fine with that.

I think I have AC Delco MR43T or something like that in my garage... Any thoughts on those plugs? I could be wrong on the name. I will post them later before I put them in.

Most of the motor heads I know hate Champion plugs, which are the stock Volvo plugs.

The 43T's are not for the Vortec heads. They are for the earlier heads. They won't reach into the Vortec's combustion chamber and you'll screw yourself.

Vortecs use a longer reach plug.

Okay I'll return them. I kind of feel bad for asking so many questions now. But do you have a plug recommendation for this motor? Anything I can get at Napa?
