Default Yay ... Fun with wires

Just getting into the world of boats....and havedescited to take on a project ....78 Hammond v1950 with a mercruiser v8.... Was told its a 307 ... But may be a 305... Not sure yet..can get it to turn over but have no fire ...found 3 old coils laying around in boat... And seen a couple wires that have been run new... One of which I know is wrong because its a straight shot from the battery to the coil...I know there needs to be a resister in it..but someone else mentioned a shift interuptor?

Search mercruiser wiring diagram on google. The wiring is pretty simple and generic. Dont make much diff if it is 305 or 307 or 283 or 350.
