audacity,
Would it help the drive to spin it faster?
I was spin'n the 26 Bravo1's @5000rpm on the drives that have the 1.348 ratio.
The reason I was only at 5000/WOT is I pulled some boost out for break-in of the motors.

design comes into play as well as physics...many parts of the equation are missing, so it's a very hard one to answer with limited data. email me w/more

OA,

When you say you have used the same drive for 2 years what exactly do you mean? That you have never grenaded your drive or you have never done any damage at all? In other words, has your drive been rebuilt, or gears, bearings, etc replaced? Just curios, I always thought that some of the water you guys get in would be hard on them.

Thanks,

Scott

back4more,

i assume from your avitar you are running a 42 fountain. instead of beating around the bush i will be blunt. your boat is to big for bravo's. has nothing to do with motor's, horsepower, or how good the drive is the bravos were never meant to push that kind of weight around. a boat like that should have speedmaster three's on it at a minimum.
as stated earlierler offshore addiction said he has been using the same drive for two years. yes he has replaced gears just because the other ones were worn but the reason his drives are living is because his boat weighs nothing.

now when i raced my 35 formula fastech i went an entire season without touching the drives. the next year i stepped up to a 38 formula that weighed about 1100 pounds heavier and blew drives all the time. they werent meant to push the weight. now with the new cut down boats like donzi and ciggarett the drives are lasting longer because the cg is diffrent and you get less side to side action when in rough water.

bottom line is you can beef up the drives all you want. save the money and put speed three's on.

toutly,

like i said has nothing to do with what type of bravo he has. botom line is boat is to heavy. he will continue to blow them apart untill he put's speed three's on there. probley already spent more then that. the diffrence in price for speed three's and imco sc's is not much.

I begining to realize this.
I looked at the IMCO while it was apart...not much beef in the pinion area.
Im going to see what the end of the race season kicks up.
Looking for wet #6's with gimbals.

Treadwell,

So it is possible to race an entire season without touching the drives with the smaller boats?(without making major mistakes, obviously) That is good to know.
