I'd check everything that moves first shortblock , heads , valve job. Not to be sarcastic but pressure test headers. Basically your lucky you didn't shoot a valve across the intake. Bust out another thousand

Stainless marine makes an awesome system lasts longer than tube headers. End your problems.

I did a compression test on that cylinder after some run time and got 185#, which is in line with the others. Then I pulled the heads, checked the shortblock, piston travel with dial guage, and had a full valve job done on the heads. I pressure checked the headers but looking into SM or EMI manifolds as well. This has not been fun and all for the sake of a stupid header. I feel like I dodged a bullet on this one.

They're pretty inexpensive from Summit. Get the one with the magnets in the base though as that helps a lot.

Wow. So after having the heads redone over the winter these are the new numbers. The engine was cold but had been run for about ten minutes on the hose to clear out the cobwebs a few days prior.

What kind of shape were the heads in when they tore into them? Did they do any milling, new seats or anything ?

May be too much even for 93 octane.

What do you have for actual compression and what cam are you running ?

It is a cheap Kragen guage. The needle doesn't even rest on the pin, but it is the same guage for all of the test. Just looking for consistency. The #2 cylinder was the first one I tested. I retested at the end and it came up to 215. *Edited original post

The heads only had less than 100 hours, new Ferrea valves cut into the existing seats. The original valves/seats had a crazy eclipse to them. The heads surfaces were just minimally cleaned up and It should only be 9.6:1

Edit: GMZZ502 cam. CMI headers and the water dumps at the tips.

I don't have the bridge for my dial indicator. I have the magnetic base. When I use mine I mount it to read the center of the piston not the edge. Wouldn't using the edge give you some error due to piston rock?

with a forged piston yes it will rock in the bore when cold.
