Just 5 more MPH
I have a 2000 Stingray 230SX with a 454 Mag spinning a 24" Bravo 1. I'm getting 68+ at 46-4700 RPM. I'd like to get 5k or a tad more out of the motor, and possibly 5 more MPH. I've added a K&N and am looking into getting IMCO or similiar exhaust, remapping the ECU and labbing the prop. Am I headed in the right direction? I'd love to step up to a blower, but right now $5k + is out of the picture.

Just 5 more MPH... is what got us all in trouble to begin with... seems 5 mph, then another 5 then..... lol I wish you all the luck in the world to find that "Magic MPH" that keeps you outa the dawg house and smilin, as for me... it ain't gonna happen. ~grin~

I think a camshaft swap would be the easiest, simplest, cheapest way to help get you there. Ask Dennis Moore for a recommendation. Then you will have to have your ECM reprogrammed ($350). A good cam will run you $300 plus the gaskets required. I don`t think an exhaust system will give you that much more rpm or speed, just more sound. They are quite expensive too. If you do the work yourself, you can get out for about $700. With the right cam, you should gain 3-5 mph maybe more.

accually a good set of exh like stainless have come close to that, put speed on a couple of boats with exh,k&n kit,and labbing the wheel....
put 4 mph on a shooter with just exh and a labbed wheel, put 4 mph on a 29 warlock with a k&n and dry pipes, all with MPI's in them

Ghia, you're leaving some horsepower on the table by not turning that 454 Mag to 5000 RPM. I bet getting your prop labbed would
get you a couple of MPH and the RPM where it needs to be. Adding a good exhaust, adjustable fuel pressure regulator and possibly reprogram the ECM should get you where you want to be. Do this before any prop work though, or you might be getting the prop reworked a second time.

Don't do it !!
Ghia,
You're going through the same thing I am except you're about 9 mos and $3,000 behind me.
Don't waste your money. I was in the same exact position you are a while ago with my 232 Baja. I run 67-68 @ 5000-5050rpm with a 454 Mag MPI turning a stock 23P Mirage Plus. I upgraded to a Vortech flame arrestor, Gil exhaust, adj. fuel pressure regulator and Arizona Speed ECU. I got NOTHING !! The engine runs great, but does not generate any more power.
If you talk to the guys at Teague, they'll tell you to put on nothing but IMCO Powerflow for exhaust and you'll gain 3 - 5 mph, more with the other mods I mentioned. I'm sorry but I don't buy it. I did everything right on my motor and got no benefit.
Just thought I'd help you save a few bucks.
