That's a given.

Sounds like the OP is looking for a solid white from the rub fail to the hard chine.
Basic scuff, fix some minor scrapes and such, prime and single stage.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Had a number of 5k in the back of my mind, but im not paint savvy. Its more of a hypothetical question at this point. Saw a boat that caught my eye, but I dont like graphics on the hull, so Id want to have the sides painted in white. I like the old school look, of letting the lines of the boat do the talking. Id want a quality job, so id probably want a clear coat as well. Not really sure whats best, but know Id want the best. Thanks again everyone.

I overlooked you color was white. My bad... Not sure if you leave in the water for any length of time however I'd let your shop know. They should suggest paint/system etc tailored to your type of use. There's a lot of excellent products out there including concept however short term use in water vs long term use can narrow it down.

you could also consider using the color change wrap vinyl, it's a colored material, clear coated designed just for that, we have used it many times with great results...

To the OP:
I bet you'd have 1500 in material for decent quality stuff and a couple grand in labor.
This is provided that the hull doesn't need a bunch of work. I'm gonna guess 3500 to 5000 for a nicely done job.
I just bought a gallon of Diamont in Dodge PR4 Bright Red to paint my truck today, it was 1000$ for the gallon, 1560$ for the paint, 2 quarts of House of Kolor tinted sealer, 1 Gallon of reducer, and a gallon of clear.

When and why did paint get so expensive?

Yes paint work has went up with the cost of materials for sure. I was holding out for a complete custom paint job on my 283 Checkmate but at 7-10k I decided to go with a wrap. $3800 for full wrap including transom. Edgewraps does extremely good work so Im getting my first wrap. I am more worried about how long the boat would be tied up with the paintjob I guess. Wanted to share my quotes with you.
