You hit it right on the head! Everyone is so proud of the new parts that they installed that no one wants to admit it didn't work!
I am talking about no one in particular, it is just human nature! It is very easy to (unintentionally) insult people when they spend big bucks on parts that don't work!

You also get rid of about 80lbs from the ass .... engine runs heathier ... bilge looks better ... boat sounds better ... boat runs a little better. Well worth the $1500.
After you've spent all that money on a frickin' boat .. don't start getting cheap now, you're building a custom rig
If you are not into the custom thing ... then, slop some silicone on it and be on your way.

Dennis quoted the text of an article where he did a back-to-back with an aftermarket "replacement" manifold that was cheaper than Mercruiser and offered a measurable performance benefit. Maybe they offer a BigBlock version and maybe it offers the same performance benefits.
Remember: what gives a performance increase to a 500+ inch 5600 rpm rollercam motor may not give anything to a 4500 rpm peanut port 454. In fact, big tubes can hurt your bottom end more than they help your topend if you aren't flowing enough volume.
