Yes. Doesnt matter if you have locked timing, weights and springs, msd, crane, daytona, mallory, etc. Magnetic triggers have this issue. Nice thing about the daytona boxes , is there is an adjustment to compensate for values outside what the internal processor is already compensating for.

Basically anyone running a magnetic trigger, and thinks they have xxx timing at 6000rpm, may certainly not. That goes back to my point about running the engine on the dyno. Give the engine what it likes, and forget about the number of what you "think"it should be. You may think you have 34 deg, and only have 30deg at 6000.

What ignition box were you using apache? What did you find for the best timing setting on the dyno?

The 900s had a 7al we only rad them at 34 didn't want the liability to give it more timing.

My na 598s ran best at 41* I set them at 39 in the boat and idled at 45* to calm them down.

The 7AL has an adjustable feature to compensate for the magnetic pickup doesnt it? Never used one.

That's is absolutely awesome. MT and Valako both now have recommended using crank trigger ignition system. Not being familiar with anything remotely current what is the best bang for the buck for a complete set up??? The last MSD ignition I used was in a couple of blown 420mb BBC's and had a box with manual knob for ignition retard. Wasn't ideal but worked. Seems like that's all that was available then. I need to get current on what's available and best for my application.

I'd probably wanna program mine for 8 deg at idle though. The ****ty idle and dry pipes is fine by me. Lol...

My engine had a crank trigger.. I would not build a engine without a crank trigger. Timing is rock solid with them.

What's a good set up to go with. MT sent me what he's had good luck with however I lost the info. Just looking for simplicity, trouble free and cost effective ingnition?

Think they are all good pretty basic set ups. I would go with flying magnet type. They all seam to do the same thing you can look into ones with weather pack connectors.

Davis Unified Ignition is one of the simplest if that's what you're looking for!

I've got the pertronix version same basic distributors brand new but not going to work with current builds. Otherwise absolutely all about the simplicity and reliability. Tks though.
