One is there is 2 filters and sometimes 3 filters in the gen III cool fuel module - second is all are properly micron rated for the app. third, is you will never find the correct 2 - O rings brand new that comes with the filter you posted , these are very important and must be installed anytime the basket / hanger is pulled ---- the reasons are --- so that air does not enter in the fuel stream leaning out your motor and or possible fuel leaks that can be very dangerous - I have about 25 of these in stock if you want one let me know ASAP. If not that's fine as well --- at least I gave you the proper free info that no one else would have gave you plus the safety factor involved here. Saying this in a good way and a safety way.

Merc udated this kit with the bottom O ring to the basket because that used O ring would not seal after time. They both need to be changed - the O rings. Top O ring to seal the basket to the fuel module cavity and bottom O ring to seal that basket section inside / internally of the module cavity. More info on top of and not worth the hunt cause 58 bucks seems like a lot for in which is. but so is gas and time trying to find fuel related O rings and the filter of the correct micron rating.

You are missing another filter as well in the Gen III cool fuel module. the pad filter at the very bottom the most important filter in the system. You need that as well. Have 25 of them to.

BUP is spot on. It's cheap insurance to change these filters every season. While apart it's a good idea to check the inside of the gen 3 housing for paint delamination. Known issue on the units that will cause problems if not corrected.

Bup is correct, the latest OEM fuel filter cartridge part number now offers 2 O-rings vs the one O-ring the old OEM number use to come with and the aftermarket fuel filter by Sierra Marine which is Sierra part number 18-7977 only comes with one O-ring which is not worth the headache or thought to be savings cost of an aftermarket filter time wise to try and find the other O-ring elsewhere specially since the other O-ring happens to be a NSS------NOT SOLD SEPARATE------Seal from Mercruiser.

Sierra # 18-7977 - FUEL FILTER Replaces: Mercruiser #35-866171A01
Fits: 350 Mag MPI Alpha/Bravo, 350 Mag MPI Horizon Alpha/Bravo , 350 Mag MPI Horizon MIE, 350 Mag MPI MIE, 496 MAG,
496 MAG H.O., 5.0 MPI Alpha/Bravo, 8.1L Inboard, 8.1L Inboard H.O., MX 6.2L MPI Alpha/Bravo, M
Sierra Marine Fuel Filter is equivalent to parts:
•358M0093688 Mercury Marine
•35866171A01 Mercury Marine

Plus there is no aftermarket filter for the other filter disk OEM part number 35-892665 which wouldn't be worth the extra cost of double shipping from two different venders.... http://www.iboats.com/W-FUEL-FILTER-...iew_id.1843917
