the op said the engine is a merc reman,i am doubting that.it is most likely a 330 with engine quest replacement heads.the engine quest replacement head is a better head than the gm head and it is less money, that is a win in my book.

Suks not having what you think you have...but better finding out before a schiton of parts are ordered.
Time to visibily check every part on this engine....to know 100% what you are dealing with.

every 454 gm ever made has a forged rod,the low performance ones used a 3/8 rod bolt, the hi perf ones used a 7/16 rod bolt.through the years people have used all sorts of parts building low buck 454s,stock and aftermarket.i have been amazed at some of the weird combinations i have seen through the years.

As a side note: scat made some of the forged cranks.

For what's it's worth the merc reman tag says it's a 2001 7.4 mag mpi
Also without question I have forged crank
Casting number 14091744.
My rods have 7/16" bolts and the rods have a dimple on them.
The block is a 4 bolt main. Camshaft is roller.
I posted all of this info in the beginning but this thread has really taken off.
And I really do appreciate all the help you guys have been giving.
Oh and lastly despite being a November 2001 build date the previous owner said it was replaced in 2011.
I don't think it sat for ten years. Maybe someone installed these pistons after it left Mercruiser?
I suspect these pistons are TRW units.
Also they seem very heavy. But I'm a Porsche tech and pistons from Porsche are lightweight to an extreme so.....
