The gen 6 502 block should only have a max bore of 4.500".

Travis, that is what I read on the Gm Performance web site.But that is not what I want to hear !I think It will cleanup at 4.510 but that means a set of expensive custom pistons.

Get your hands on a sonic tester and see how much wall thickness you have and too see if the bore is perfectly centered in the cylinder. You might be able to get away with it.. but like mcollinstn said.. slap a sleeve in it...

I have a gen V 502 that we took out to 4.520" was told at that time I could go to 4.530" but ex-engine man did me a favor and only went 4.520" so I would have a .010" clean up cut down the road.. now the pistons were custom and so were the rings.. gapless. Took for ever to get them. So think about it. Sonic check and look at the 4.530" and if not.. sleave the bad hole(s).

4.500 is the GM recommended maximum. However, many shops bore them to 4.530 with no problem. If it's a good block with no core shift you'll be good to go. It's best to sonic test it first to be sure.

after the work is done i would hydro the water jackets just to be safe. about $90.

RWS. According to GM's Performance Catalog, the Gen VI can be safely bored to 4.60 while still maintaining a minimum wall thickness of .325

street- I am curious where you found that info.. My catalog (2002) says the production block can go 4.5, the only block I see that can go 4.6 is the bowtie block..
