Default Power Steering leak

I have been chasing a oil leak. I finally realized today it was PS fluid and coming from the cap and not blowby from the breather. Standard GM / Mercruiser style cap. Is there supposed to be a gasket on the cap? Mine does not have one. It locks on tightly it seems, but the canister is wet after a run and it drips onto the alternator and sprays around the engine compartment. I wrapped a paper towel around it and ran for a while. The towel was wet and nothing sprayed in the engine compartment so it is verified to be leaking there. If there is not supposed to be a gasket I will change the cap.

Thanks.

Just found my answer, My cap does have a gasket as part of the cap. Does not look to be replaceable. Off to get a new cap.

Sounds like it could be overfilled.

Not overfilled. The gasket has a pretty good indention in it from use. It could be 20 years old possibly.

Some things don't have to be running to wear out...
