If you can believe it, a 2" rubber cap is need on the Alpha...on the drive side. Yikes it's tiny!

If you have a normal non ventilated prop that hasn't had the diffuser modified blocking air flow through drive won't help much.
ventilating the prop only helps getting on plane ( allows slip ) or hurts getting on plane when you have natural ventilation and don't need any more slip.
My cat doesn't like transom lift. I can't run 5 blade props and have the diffuser cut as short as possible. It made a very noticeable settling of the transom.
But the drawback is getting on plane. But once on plane the prop hooks up solid. About 4 % slip.
once on plane ventilation is a plus to get maximum efficiency. The fact that you are doing the speeds you say tells me you have your setup close.
The new engine is NOT the cause of your planing and blow out issues.
