Can the sniper lock a tune just for the idle circuit and go closed loop at 1500rpm and above? I don’t think the op needs it for his application, but have read that’s a handy feature on the bigger engines.

Thanks for all your input guys! The OMC 5.8 is freshly rebuilt with new pistons, flo tek heads, new camshaft, roller rockers, Weiland manifold. My main reason is easy starting, get ride of smelly fumes due to improper carb settings. Don't really want to mess with jetting, more of a computer guy that likes to fiddle with software instead. Also the carb has been rebuilt and set to the stock specs, which seam to be a bit of right now. As for the O2, its no problem, I will water cut a spacer and then machine it on my mill. I was planning on doing the spacer with a slight rise as the spacers that are around mounts it horizontal which is what kills most O2 sensors as moisture gets trapped in it and the burns up when you apply voltage to it.

Do you think it would be safe to use a Sniper as it injects fuel above the throttle plates?

Yeah figured that also, but a seller claimed that this would make the sniper less safe than the Terminator unit from Holley. Not saying that the terminator wouldn't be a better option, but terminator would put this project out of the budget.
What about the controller in the sniper, would there be a problem with this as its not epoxy sealed. Can it be sealed with a gasket to keep it dry from moisture and out of explosion risk? Maybe its already, dont know... I'm in brachish water so oxidation isn't to much of a problem, but going with the coated units would properly be the best option.

Thats pretty much the concern I have before pulling the trigger on this project. All the other bits I can pretty much work around.

IF your that concerned, get on Holley's tech line and ask them, no one knows their product's better. I think there are two versions of the snipper,

As of now there is only one version.
they arnt making the 8 injector one yet.At least as if two weeks ago.
Biggest thing is keeping the o2 sensor dry.
I was also told by tech support that you could lock in a tune but they prefered you to not and to use the O2 sensor feedback.
