502 MPI Upgrade
Looking for proven formulas on stock gen 6 502 mpi's. Do not want to Whipple or Procharge. ECU upgrades? Injection or Air flow upgrades. And what will the stock valve train (weak) take? Cams? Inconell upgrade necessary? ETC..........Thanx

hustler388,
There was a write up article in Hot Boat magazine a couple of years ago in reference to upgrading the stock 502MPI.
Cut the heads .020"
Modify heads for larger stainless steel 2.25" intake valves
3-angle valve job
Add a slightly larger cam (be very careful with the cam---Tyler Crocket has the specs on the cam)
Add Crane Gold roller rocker arms (heads may have to machined for screw in studs for this)
Add a performance chip to the computer
Add a K&N air filter
Add CMI elbow top stainless steel headers
The article says these mods are good enough for about 100 horsepower. Also, unless you add the headers the above mods will somewhat be useless because the stock 502MPI with its stock CRUDE exhaust system is not good enough for the engine to breath the way it needs to.
While you have the heads off, have them pocket/blow ported. This was NOT done in the HOT BOAT Mag test, but as long as you have them off you might as well have the bowls/pockets ported---it will probably be good for another 25hp or so.
Keep us posted and let us know what you do
