SeaRayJim is right on...IMHO
I've had the same problem with brand new Crane Hydraulic lifters...I got less than an hour on mine and one collapsed and took out the cam in the process...hope it's just the lifter in your case...

Thats really weird I had the exact same thing happen to me, except I did not even get away from the dock. Checked oil, started the port engine and it was clacking away like a valvetrain problem, but it turns out it's a wrist pin. Motor coming out this week AAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!

I rebuilt a 350 and w/in hours it developed, what sounds like a similar noise. I didn't like the idle quality anyway, so we switched cam and lifters, and the sound went away. (Yep, pulled the motor twice, but it was worth it).
