Default 600sci rebuild cost

Hello everyone,

I have found a boat with twin 600sci’s .. one of them is kaput and judging by how he maintained that one I am sure the other one is heading in that direction..the boat is in close to new condition. He is willing to accept a very low price just to get rid of the boat as no one around town buys these type of boats and he’s not interested to spend money and time on to repair it.

my questions is.. how much would it cost to completely overhaul 600sci (worst case scenario) and secondly could I drop a pair of 525’s or 496s in its place or is the wiring and mounting completely different between the two?

thanks.

Not sure on exact costs, but 600 up isn't asking a lot of a super charged bbc so I doubt there is anything too fancy to jack up a rebuild price, more than likely less to do basic rebuilds on them then to buy 2 525's used that may. Be getting tired themselves and Merc 496s are the red headed step child of the boating world

600 SCI engine issues, 1 or both, the rebuild wouldn't be much different than a 525 cost wise. Headers need pressure tested for leaks and fuel injectors should be flowed and rebuilt. As suggested above Eddie Young, Saris, Mark Boos, + many more good reputable and reliable. Depends where you live, how much you want to travel. Also, plan on drive work with 600SCIs, if there is engine trouble most likely going to need drives gone thru.

the 600 Sci wiring harness is not the same as the 525 hp nor a 496. case in point -- the injectors connectors are the same for the 600 sci and 525 but the 496 is not the same and the coils for connectors are different on the 600 sci than both the 525 and 496 for a very short jist of it. There is more as well.

Also make sure whom ever builds the engine has a scan tool for these apps and knows how to use it. I have no problems with any of it but for myself the timeframes would not be quick - actually a long wait. I am over welmed with work.
