Default hp estimation-help needed

just wondering :

540 cu.in with dart heads + 10 lbs boost on top of it with optimum cam and carbs. how many hp it has to generate?!?

can it produce around 850hp?

The 540 with 1.1HP/CID gets you 600HP and then add 9lbs/18=50% increase gets you to 900HP.

Hey Timicun,
What kind of cam and what compression ratio are you running ? If I can broom my boat this spring I will start on another 540 for whatever new boat I end up with. I plan on supercharging and also want to make around 850hp.

Thats a lot of boost man.
With 6#s out of our 10-71s on top of 8.03:1 CR. 557s...we got 850.
How much CR you think your going to end up with?

Too much boost for pump gas.

planning to build engines : just an idea for the moment. dont have the chargers or cam but perhaps will be around:

comp. around 8:1
cam around: @.050....240 , 632 lifts in/ex.
superchiller
msd boost retarder box for safety

our octane around :90 ( dunno if there are different standarts for this.but our gas is not very cool)

what boost would you use with pump gas ?

Your like 13.5 to 1 CR with those numbers. Alltitude can change this but that is way to much CR for pump gas. I think I would build as big a cubic inch motor you can and then keep the boost low. Thats how engine builders make the big HP numbers and advertize running on 87 octane. What everyou do I would invest in some pyrometer gauges and knock sensors. Might save you some broken parts down the road. 850hp from a 540 does not need that much boost as the other posts have stated. As long as you have a set of good flowing heads.

Back4more what heads are you running?
