drive showers/BRAVO 1
Have been reading different posts on this subject. If you are not getting the white chalky stuff on your drive, should you still install a drive shower? How do you know if one is necessary. Running a 454 with 500 hp witha Bravo 1. Thanks, 88

Drive shower
We just did an interesting test on drive showers for FAMILY AND PERFORMANCE BOATING MAGAZINE. We had a temp gauge in the drives gear oil. In the first test we had a boat that rode low in the water at high speeds (a cruiser), this prevented the driveshaft housing from running out of the water like it would do on a performance boat. The drive remained deep in the water and was naturally cooled without much effect from the drive shower.
Our next test was on a high performance boat that ran the driveshaft housing out of the water, buy the magazine to see the results of that test. If you have a large boat that doesn't really get up and go it would seem by our test that the water naturally flowing over the driveshaft housing is adequate.
Anybody understand what I just said?
Sincerely

Yes I get it. Call Rich at Hydro Cool, his product is the nicest around and looks like a stock merc. piece but could be done in any color. He sells thousands of those things, good guy 815-282-6450

Run a bottle of Prolong in with the Merc. High Performance lube. Hot Boat did a test on it about 4 years ago and it dropped outdrive temp by 11 degrees! I run a single tube shower and No white what so ever. Better that all the other showers I've seen.
