Question gear lube

I'm running a 496 HO @ bravo 1X, does anybody know about Sierra Hi-performance synthetic gear lube?
Thanks for input

Default I'll ask

In December, after I am finished with the PRI show (Performance Racing Industry) in Indy, I am going to tour the Sierra Marine facilities in Litchfield and possibly write an article about Sierra Marines replacement parts. Does anybody have any suggestions or questions about the aftermarket replacement parts business that I could use in a mag article? Would a sample Sierra replacement part comparison to an OEM part be interesting to anyone. If so, what would people like to see compared, oil filters, water pump kits, GEAR LUBE, carb kits, engine couplers, etc...? I am going to ask for sample products to photograph. Give me some suggestions.
Thanks

I commend D.Moore for the open mind! In the meantime I will point out that NO ONE exceeds AMSOIL'S wear specs. for their synthetic competition gear oil. ps--Yes, it's 100% USA. --- Jer

Dennis, that ought to be an interesting article. I have a small shop and use a lot of Sierra products. Many of them appear identical to the OEM parts. I suspect a lot are actually manufactured by the same companys. We use the synthetic lube and as far as I can tell it's the same as Merc's, just a different color(green).

I would be very interested in knowing if they are, in fact, the same parts manufactured by the same people. I would find it hard to believe that Merc didnt tie up their parts manufacturers somehow but many of these items require a considerable investment in tooling and casting etc. On many items, I doubt there is a performance difference such as bellows, but couplers, that could be another matter all together. Wouldnt Merc be inclined to stop that article by threatening to stop advertising? I think its a great idea and would read it very closely. I think actual testing might be difficult, expensive and time consuming. Good Luck. Very interesting and forward thinking idea.

Dennis, I would would definietly be interested in that article.

There is not a place where I can get Merc parts for miles. But I can order anything Sierra makes from the local(or any) Boater's World near by and get it in a timely fashion. I got a starter motor from them one time, worked perfect even after I sold the boat.

formula31 did bring up a good point about Merc and advertising.
