xlint89...so this is a new project engine for you? Did you decide to take a pause on the HP500 you had swapped for your 502 MPI? I assume you sold that engine (the 502 Mag MPI)?
Just curious why you chose to go a carb route vs fuel injection?

I would definately pull the pick ups to see the current condition of them. My tubes were getting in bad shape and I would have never known, since I was upgrading my fuel system already we found mine in bad shape. Here's mine that Eddie Young made and installed into my AT. Side by side comparison from old pick ups to new. The new ones are way superior and Stainless Steel as well.

Beware of thread lube used

This fitting is aluminum, and very soft. Thread sealant was not enough of a lubricant to prevent galling and a 1/2NPT to 8AN fitting seized inside of this tube destroyed the threads. The thread form is quickly cut, and not very accurate.

TANKS INC: Please rethink the AL alloy you're using, or better yet make this out of SS like the marine industry does. The only reason I bought this was the 90 deg fitting. I would pay a premium to get this in a material that wasn't so soft and didn't friction weld itself to aluminum fittings.
Thank you, I did not see that review prior to buying.

I was having doubts on the pick up tube because of the aluminum. That was partly why I asked about it in my original post.

This is a new engine. The HP 500 i bought last year was shot. Had to replace the block, intake manifold, and valve seats were shot from water intrusion. (pitted)

The only thing being used from that engine I bought is the crankshaft and distributor.

Yes, the 502 mag MPI was sold and is going towards the new build.

Chose the carb because it was available and in my price range. Also I have read many times on here that people recommend going carb to make more power. Any EFI upgrades required a re-tune and was a crap shoot if the map was going to work. (mail away your EMM and hope it comes back properly tuned for your set up) Lastly, water and elec. don't mix well. Figured KISS method would work best for a boat.

Oh Hell yeah!!! That's what I'm talking about. Those look like quality.

Thanks for the lead.

Sorry for the old post resurrection, but I'm trying to figure this out.

I bought the pick up tube from Eddie and have a few questions I hope you can help me with.

1. The PU tube fitting is stainless. I cannot find a stainless female fitting to work. Are you guys using aluminum fittings for the fuel with no problems? (I am on fresh water)

2. The PU tube uses a 10AN fitting. And the matching 10AN fitting with hose barb for push on application is for 5/8" hose. Does it make sense to use 5/8" hose when the pick up is only 3/8"?

3. Would it make more sense to reduce the AN10 to a AN 8 and use 1/2" hose?

4. On the fuel filter head, would you keep using aluminum AN fittings, or install brass NPT fittings? (I planned on using push on hose)

5. Is marine grade push on fuel Coast Guard approved? (I cannot find USCG approval)

6. Should I just use 1/2" marine (approved) fuel hose and adapt it to the Eddie Young pick up tube?

Around 550 HP NA engine for reference

Thank you
