Default Holley 8896-1

Looking for a little help here. I've never done much tuning on carbs and just pulled it off the boat for the season, so decided to pull it apart. I think the boats been running rich, so wanted to see how it's setup.

I believe this is a 2-circuit, but looks like this model can come in 2 or 3 circuits. I don't see the intermediate air bleeds.

Idle air bleeds were all the way in except 1 that was maybe a half turn out. This doesn't seem right to me. Idle air bleeds are located on the bowls, correct? 2 on each bowl.
Main jets are 90
I pulled out the jet located under the flat head screw - it's showing a 35. What are these, is this the high speed bleed?
What are the 4 brass inserts, 2 near primary and 2 near the secondaries? They don't seem to be adjustable on mind. I've noticed other carbs have screws that you can adjust.

I was searcing on Holleys site for a manual of some sort to educate myself, but couldn't locate anything. Does anyone have a good documention on what all the parts are and what they do?

Thank you

The part# says 3 circuit but the pic of your carb is a 2 circuit.

Those screws are idle mixture screws.

Those are squirters. They are part of the accelerator pump circuit. . they squiry fuel for a quick second when you move the accelerator forward.

Those are air bleeds. Some carbs are fixed some you can inscrew to screw in another size. Since you have 2 per throttle bore, you have a 2 circuit carb. A Low speed and a high speed bleed. If you had 3 per throttle bore, you’d have a 3 circuit carb. Low speed, intermediary bleed, and high speed bleed.

You need to (should) start with a book to better familiarize yourself with what is what and what things do. There are several hp books and etc at book stores and online that are good. How to rebuild your holley / how to modify your Holley is good beginnings.

I appreciate the responses. Watched most of the videos in on Holley and will pick up a book as well.

surprisingly, not a lot of good content on YouTube etc. related to carbs.

I want to learn how to tune these things!

Really need a good wideband as well.

I found an excellent book by David Vizard that I couldn't stop reading over the weekend, in case anyone is looking for a good book. Should be ready to start building customer carbs once I get past a couple more chapters
