New flywheel or no?

I would go with the ATI for sure. One thing with the ATI damper. They almost always need the hub to be honed to get the proper interference fit. They are almost always too tight. If you order it directly from ATI and you have a way to precisely measure your crankshaft snout, they will hone it to the correct fit. Otherwise most good machine shops should be able to do it for you although a lot of guys do not have the correct mandrel for the rod hone to do the job.
what’s everyones thoughts about a billet aluminum flywheel? Or stick with steel?

been trying to read and figure it out. Found a thread from a long time ago. Lighter flywheels have issues while idling in gear…….I realize that makes no sense, but just putting your boat in gear and having no throttle lighter flywheels let the boat stall and quit. Steel it is.

I have a lightweight billet on mine....it revs up noticeably quicker is about the only difference I see. I am fuel injected so haven't experienced any of the idling issues you're talking about? Just my experience.

I wonder how the steel VS. aluminum flywheel reacts to choppy conditions?
I know aluminum will rev faster, but steel should keep inertia going when the drive leaves the water and re-enters. I would think the lighter flywheel would have more of a load shock VS. the steel.
That's at least my understanding of how it worked on the jet ski.

Since I am in the mist of an engine rebuild I want to install a new balancer on my Gen 6 502, what brand do you have an ATI? Also who makes the lightened flywheel?

ATI balancer and I don't have a clue for the flywheel. Came in the pile of parts I got the motor in so I had it checked and decided to use it since my iron flywheel has a tooth missing anyway. Sorry wish I could be more help
