Default Removing bravo outdrive

OK guys, never removed a bravo before. Had a Volvo before and that was fairly straightforward. Anything I need to know before I remove the outdrive. I am going to inspect U-joints and grease them and if I can get my hands on an alignment tool, going to check that also. thanks in advance

Removing is simple. Remove speedo hose from drive. Turn lever & pull up. This should remove a plastic insert that goes in lower part of drive. 2-Remove with the bar that holds the trim cylinders to the drive. Get something to suport drive & remove the 6 bolts that hold drive on. One good yank & drive should pull straight out(Make sure shifter is in neutral.)

Hold on just a minuite! lets not to forget to diconnect the shift cable! After the bolts are loostened pull the drive back a little you should be able to see the cable. Now, lift up that little tab and you should be able to pull the cable foreward and out. Now you can pull the drive straight back. Just dont let the splinned shaft on the coupler drop down and damage the bellows on the way out. don`nt drop it on your foot.....it`ll leave a mark!......Roger 1

The six bolts should be alternatly and evenly torqued to 50 ft lbs. Mercury recomends using new self locking nuts. I recomend, that whenever you use stainless ''nylock'' nuts on a stainless bolt or stud, that you ''always'' use antisieze. Failure to do so can cause the bolt and nut to gall so badly that you will swear that they are welded togther and they may as well be! Good luck!.....Roger 1

good advice...this will help too.

1. make sure to pull the link bar forward to ease installation.

2. when removing and installing the drive, place a hammer handle between the bell housing and the ginbal ring to insure the drive stays level when the trim rams are removed...this helps a ton! good luck
