What does everyone think of GM's new Crate ZZ572 with 720HP?? What would it take to "Marinize" this motor? I am looking into either reuilding my MKIV 502 with upgrades or purchasing a new motor and this one is a possiblity. Thanks for any input good or bad.

I think it is high compression which means $3.00 gas. I run that type of fuel, but most want pump gas motors.

WETTE VETTE is right. The lower compression version of this engine might be a better choice. It will still blow the 502 into next week and is a very good engine, especially with a cam change.

I agree, but don't they offer a 650hp version with less cr? I'm pretty sure there are two versions, I remember reading something about this a few weeks back.

That looks like a nice piece. I would like to see more specifics on the cam profile. As was stated above, it looks like it may have to be changed.

Given the right exhaust system, I think that 9.6:1 motor would be a super NA boat motor. Nice tq motor. Do you guys agree?? I wonder what the tq curve looks like. From the outside it looks almost identical the 509 I built last year, but about 100 more hp and about 75 more ft lbs. (red and aluminum)

Anyone see a $$ tag. I think that would be a fantastic piece for someone who wants a turnkey pump gas 600+hp na motor with a warranty, assuming it actually makes that number. Conservative setup=less headaches. My dyno guy ran sweeps on a new 502/502 crate motor, and it made 501hp. So, I assume that 620hp rating is probably very close to 620. I'd like to see the tq curve though. My .02

That is a nice looking hunk of metal for a factory motor. I wonder if it will come with a warranty? It will be really interesting to see how the pricing is compared to Mercruisers prices. As stated, I am thinking the cam will need replaced.
tmthunder, If you bought this one, you would have a spare or you could sell your 502 to help offset the cost of the new motor.

28 Eliminator,
I would most likely hang on to the 502 for a while to make sure that the new motor holds up but then sell it. Not really sure what I am going to do yet. If I do get one of the 572's I will definetly post numbers and pics!!
