575 SCI's
Save your money. I have several friends who have the 575 SCI's and are very disappointed in them. The 525 EFI's will run with them in our hot and humid southern summers. The 575's run well in the cooler spring and fall, but can not run any better than a 525 EFI in the hot summer months. They would probably be okay up north

I have one in my boat but only have 10 hours on it.
At the time it was between a 575 or a 500efi and the 575 has better numbers. That narrows quite a bit with the advent of the 525, however the 575 is still blue printed and balanced and is a solid motor. Also when the warranty runs out adding a intercooler and a smaller pully will improve performance. Overall it is a solid motor and I do not reget the decision.
If I had to do it again and the 525 was available I would probably go with the 525, not becasue the 575 has caused me any problems yet, but the being able to run 87-91 octane is a good option to have. On the other hand I think there might be more performance to be had out of the 575 with less additional investment. Also contrary to what a lot of people say I didn't pay that much more for my 575 over what I was quoted for the 500.

The reason for the question is I'm planning to buy a used boat with 575's and XR drives. I boat on Lake Michigan and the water temp stays fairly cool. That sounds like a plus for these motors. Unless there is a big problem with the motors the decision on what type is not an option. If I didn't hear any horror stories about them, I was going to continue with the plan to purchase the boat. I know they will need at least 92 octane but thats not a problem, except for cost.
I was reading a tread about putting intercoolers and smaller pulleys on the 575's. It didn't sound that easy because the motors ran very rich. The ECM ? had to be reprogramed.
Thanks

Roger, I think the 575sci had some fuel line problems. Like they were splitting or something if I remember correctly and I think Merc put out a recall notice about the problem so remember to check into that before purchasing the boat.
