drive ?
upgrading engine in 27' checkmate to around 900 hp with 800 pds of torque. Leaning torwards installing max machice kit into current bravo 1. What are the advantages and disadvantages to the shorter lower drives? Also currently have stern jack on should I leave it?

Advantages of shorter lowers is that they are shorter (they raise the propshaft centerline and present less of the lower unit to pass thru the water). Disadvantages of them is they cost money.
Should you run your SternJack with 900hp? No. You will break something.
Are you safe to run 900hp thru a Bravo? No. You will break something.
What about Max machine kit? You will still break something.
good luck.

You are exceeding the capacity of the Bravo drive by a huge margin. Even a stronger drive, like the B-max or the extream will reuse the stock gimble. You are exceeding the capacity of the gimble by a huge margin. If you really want to run those power numbers you must go to either the new B-max gimble or a speedmaster.
