Default Powerstroke Question

2 questions.

I just bought a 2001 PSD and have a couple concerns.

1. When pulling the boat, I takeoff and give it quite a bit of throttle, the truck shakes pretty bad...as if a bad engine mount, but they are ok. Is this normal under a heavy load.

2. It doesnt seem like it has the same power as it did when I got it....may be just getting used to it. I have put around 6,000 miles on it. Fuel Filter?

These maybe normal, just new to the diesel engines.

Thanks

Thanks Tim for the enlightning and informative response...The driveline shudder you describe is not your transmission, but more than likely an incorrect driveshaft angle, this is a simple fix and involves shimming the carrier bearing up or down. Causes can be from lifting the rear[i.e. lift kit or blocks] or lowering the rear as in a big load or lots of tounge weight. If that doesn't work, you can always do what Tim says: buy a GMC and never have a problem again...they aren't #4 for nothing!

Its got a 4" lift. Maybe thats it, but its only under heavy acceleration with a big load.

Loss of power could very well be fuel filter, also power strokes seam to go through air filters fast also.

Torque converter? Mine will do it if I give it too much power on take off.

Treat your trans like you treat your outdrive, easy on the take-off!!!

Default OK OK

Well, I'd agree to the U joint thing now that I know it's been hillbillied.. You may need to shim that rear axle..
I had a '96 PSD that killed two trannys.
Then I got this '00 GMC. Bad trans from day one, but once fixed it's been 100% for 45k.

How do you shim the rear axle? Where do you get the stuff to do it.

Thumbs up

This is simply torque shudder as Liquid Lounge indicated. I had the problem on my 2001 F350 PSD that had a leveler kit installed only in the front.
First time the dealer told me it was normal after a test drive. Second time with a new Service Manager I was told that they had full sets of shims for the transfer case (I think) and it could easily be fixed UNDER warranty.
Sure enough I can now lay into it with no shudder AT ALL! Night and Day difference. He said they had to try 3 or 4 different sizes before it was right.

It is fixable if they are cooperative.

Later,
Dave
