I ran the cams on desktop dyno:
STOCK- 5000rpm=507hp, 533tq
5500rpm=522hp, 598tq
6000rpm=527hp, 461tq

731 -5000rpm=526hp,552tq
5500rpm=549hp,524tq
6000rpm=561hp, 491tq

741 -5000rpm=513hp, 538tq
5500rpm=546hp, 521tq
6000rpm=562hp, 492tq

I think the 731 is my choice, any comments, suggestions?

I'd go with bobby's recommendation for the 731 cam. But I wouldn't spin the engine to 6k. 5400 max. The lifters will pump up and things will get ugly. If you want to spin it that hard, then get a solid lifter.

If you want more power, go with a 250 or a chiller.

Thanks Cord the lifters will float or pump up depending on the springs on the motors we've run on the dyno around 5800 we try and recomend that as top sustained rpms and 6k for short blast as the hyd lifter is so heavy ! just my 02 not argueing with you though

Nope, that's fine. The 5400 number admittedly has a little "padding" in it. And I was refering to a continuous setting. You know those "short blasts" can become awful long.

Go4Broke, thanks for running the numbers. Hope were not wearing you out on this. I think the real quesiton is at 3000, 3500 and 4000. This is where the torque for cruising would be important. It pretty much looks like the 741 is going to be best for WOT but how does the 731 compare to the 741 in the midrange?

Just for reference here is a post Jerry put up on a 250 with a 741 at 5lbs.

731 much stronger in the midrange.
I'm not sure why the desktop dyno numbers are so different than Jerry's. Must be something different on his motor that wasn't accounted for in my D.D. set up. Usually is more accurate than that.
Probably the ported heads, they would flow different thatn the flow numbers I have for stock heads.
