Kiekhaefer Adjustment ?????'s
Is there any adjustments that can be made on Kiekhaefer zero effort throttles??When running at a cruise the throttles will somtimes creep back.Is there a resistance or friction adjustment that can be made? Also when at W.O.T. the sticks are only slightly past the halfway point. So is there a way to adjust the throw or leverage to be able to use the full range of the throttle controls?
Thanks
Steve

Steve, It sounds like the detent balls and (or) springs have worn out or were not re-installed when the unit was last taken apart. You'll need to remove the contol unit and take it apart and replace the detent balls and springs. This is a fairly easy job. It's also a great time to clean and re-lube the control. Those K-controls are great and will last forever with a little care.
To make use of the full range of the throttle controls you will need to increase the the length of the lever-arm attaching to the carb's throttle arm, that is if there is even if a lever arm present on you current carb. Often times people install K-controls and don't add a longer lever arm to the carb. That makes the throttle very "touchy" and without much travel. Most standard controls don't require an additional lever arm since there is additional compounding linkage in the control box. If you don't presently have a carb lever-arm extension, the are easy to make out of steel using a drill and a grinder. It only needs to be about an inch long. Just don't make it too long else you will have the oppisite problem than what you have now. Also important is to fine tune the cable adjustment for or no bind on the carb throttle when at WFO. The WFO stop should be at the K-control, not the carb throttle body.
