Hard Anodizing Blower Pulleys ??
i had to custom make a couple blower tensioner pulleys out of 6061 aluminum. Someone told me i should have them hard anodized so they do not wear from the belt pressure and heat generated from the belt spinning.
anyone have any thoughts on if i need to get this done. i could see if it were a main crank pulley or top blower pulley that has no give, but this is the spring loaded tensioner pulley that will give under pressure via the spring.

i'de have to differ on the wear. we hard coat annodized some automotive interior parts i designed because of the excessive spring pressure and cycles applied onto the part. hard coat is something like 6 points shy of diamond hardness in rockwell measure, if i remember. don't hold me to that number, but jsut DANG hard!!!.
I can't answer if it is necessary though. it is a cool platinum look. at least the process we used. not sure if you can get clear hardcoat annodizing.

i called the local anodizing place around here and they do have a clear hard anodize...I may go in that direction because the aluminum has a high polished look right now.
i know that it is very, very hard stuff because someone once gave me a part to machine that had been harden anodized, and i couldn't cut through it.....i burned up 3 tools before I quit gave it back to him.
