Edelbrock Performer VS. Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap
Switching over to the SBC Vortec RPM Air-Gap after using the standard vortec performer for my 358 SBC. Any thoughts? Seems like a solid 10-20 hp gain from 3500-5500 compared to the performer and yet still very close under 3500...Everything written seems very positive....

Bobby....I was reading a buildup of a GM crate 383 in Hot Rod magazine with the same heads and compression ratio I have the cam was considerbly smaller though. They mentioned that while the spacer is usually good for some extra hp on most intakes on SBC's on the RPM-Air-Gap that they actually lost 25ft lbs of torque and about 10hp......They noted that that was unusuall. My motor is running a Comp Cams XM 270 Roller 218/224 with .493/.505 lift. With the Performer intake I was pushing about 360hp. Power max's out at about 5400......I have a 1" 4 hole spacer so I will try with and without....
Thanks

Dear Bad
I have an air gap on my sbc. I really like it. I went from a stock intake to the air gap and my motor came alive. I run full closed cooling and my vortec sbc has been trouble free for the year + that I have had it. My closed cooling has a couple inch perko strainer scoop on the bottom of the hull that gives me lots of cooling water and keeps my block pressure around 5 psi. I think as long as you don't over pressure the intake gaskets and make a milkshake it is the way to go. I have heard that they have some better intake gaskets now than they did when I did my engine. Get the best intake gaskets that you can find.
