Default low water pressure

Im running about 17 lbs of water pressure on 1 engine.
This is exactly what the factory spec sheet says. The other
engine is only at about 8 lbs. ( these readings are at 3500
rpm). Temp normal when under power but if idleing for a
long time the temp creeps up. It goes down as soon as I
raise rpm. Ive put a new sea water pump impeller kit
in it,but it is the same. Any suggestions?
Thanks Rick.

Sometimes the housing needs to be replaced also, as it gets imperfections in it. ( just went thru this myself )

Also sometimes the actual water pump on the engine can cause this. Another thing to check is sometimes the check balls in the t-stat housing can get stuck. Usually if there is a problem with a blockage in the bellhousing hose, usually it is above 3000rpm not at idle.

I would replace the housing, put in a new impellar with the this. Put some dish soap inside the new housing thru one of the hose connections once back togather, and spin the thing over several times by hand, otherwise possible damage can occur to the new impellar prior to water getting to it once re-installed on the new engine. A good idea is to install a new t-stat every season, just to be safe.....

If your not running a water pump and using a cross over, I would guess either impellar housing, or a blockage somewhere, especially if an impellar blew apart as it will get stuck in the cooler.

I thought about the stat but it never gets hot under power.
if the stat was sticking it would probably run hot when more
flow was required. It seems like a circulation problem. Do you
think the circulation pump could cause this? I wonder how
much work the circulation pump actually does, as a engine
can run a crossover with no problem. A crossover eliminates
the pump so how can a bad pump cause this?

epeek,

Try swapping gages form side to side to make sure it's not a faulty gauge. Also check to see if the gauge line has sediment built up at the fitting in the block.

Next I would pull both seawater pump hoses and back flush the system with a garden hose. Start at the thermostat housing and force water back towards the coolers. Check to see if you have good flow coming out the hose at the sea water pump. Next back flush the hose from the sea water pump to the drive. Make sure you have good flow coming out the drive. Do you have low water pickups? Did that engine use to have better water pressure? Could you have sucked up sand into the engine?
