Hi There.
I have just bought a cobra 860 sport (28feet)
Due to the fuel prizes in Norway where I live (5US$ for a gallon) , I am going to install a diesel engine, the engine I have bought is a Marine diesel hammerhead 300hk
But my concerns is that the bravo one unit will not stand up the torque my new engine delivers, 300hk at 3600rpm and 502 Lbf-ft at 1780rpm
my bravo one unit has 1.1,36 gearing .
the boat weight is aprox 3600pounds
the boat has aproc 24degress vbottom
tech data on the engine go to
marinediesel.nu
techdata on the boat
cobraboats.no
I will be happy to see any comments on this .

$5.00 a gallon!!
I don't have any actual numbers to to give you. But, a big factor is how you run the boat. Easy pulling up on plane and easy on re-entering the water when in the air will help the drive see another day.

cobra,
Your diesel puts out no more thrque than a Merc HP500. The HP500 puts out 540 lb-ft of torque at around 4000 rpm, and your diesel does so at 1750 rpm. If you are running one of the X-series bravos, and use a billet cap on the left hand drive, then you should be okay if you don't abuse it.

Hi Guy`s thank you for your answers, I think I will stick then to the bravo 1, I have an see how it goes.
If I blow up the drive Then I have a good excuse to buy a bravo bmax...
Checkmate454mag You want more of those expecive things in Norway??
Check this out.
In Norway we have a "green"tax related to how much horsepower the engine has in the boat. aprox 19$ pr horse power+ tax on the tax wich is 24%
for my engine wich is 300hp
19x300= 5700$x1,24=7068$
Just in tax to the FuXXXX goverment
and the there is sale sum for the engine as well
That is as stupid as it can get!!
But still there are alot of boats in Norway even if it is expensive up here in the north, we are aprox 4,2million people and there is aprox 1millon boats here, and powerboats are starting to get popular in Norway.
Regards Kjetil

cobra860,
Keep us posted on how this goes. I love diesel myself and have pondered the idea of putting a hot rodded Cummins in a boat. I think I would go with a surface drive though.
Good luck!

Thank you "groove", will do so.
Several of my friends is using diesel in their power boats.
Some el diablo 36`s (norwegian made boat) has cummingsdiesel engines, but they are using arneson drives, and chrash box.
Mack merlin is also beeing used.
A good friend of mine is building a el diablo 36, and has put 2 seatek diesel engines in it.
He has not put it in the water yet, he is waiting for the props from Fabio Buzzi.
I will take som pic of it and put it in here when I get home from the sea.
Here is some pic of antoher el diablo with a singel sea tek diesel
