Default Th OD quit in my 700r4 D is ok should I care

The truck that I tow my boat with has a 700r4 tranny. Th OD is dead with D everything seems to be ok. the OD has been jumping out for a while and now nothing happens in OD. If D works I am good to go.

Should I change the tranny oil. Is there a wire or switch that would cause the OD to quit. Should I just drive in D and not worry. I always tow in D anyhow.

Thanks Four Your help.

If the converter isn't locking then you will probably burn the trans up. It happened to me once.
