Cool intake-F. Arrestors
Just curious... Never seen anyone using a setup similar to cars cool air intakes...
As anyone ever tested a flame arrestor out of the engine room?
I mean, there is lots of places were we could get fresh air for the intake without suffering from engine heat... (sides, rear seat....)
It is commonly done with cars... Cool air intake systems are provided with duct, tubbing, extensions to get the air far away from the engine...
Many claims that for each 10 degrees drop, you gain 3% HP...
I hope someone as good explanations about that because I am very confused about it.... Hard to believe nobody as tested it...

Automotive engine compartments are much hotter, They have hot air blown into it as it has passed thru the radiator. Not to mention the exhaust manifolds or headers. Boat exhaust is cooled with water, reducing engine compartment temperatures.
On my Excalibur I have scoops directly over my carbs which I keep covered. If I take them off I really don't notice any significant change in performance.
Anybody else done any experimenting?

I have heard of people saying that when they cracked their hatch open a bit they picked up some speed because of the better air they were getting to the carbs.....truth?.....Fred

Truth, I had a Scorpion that when you cracked the hatch picked up 2mph (GPS) I now have a 25' Martini that I'm running dry exhaust through Bassett headers. I'm currently building a 4 corner hatch lift to allow MASSIVE amounts of air to circulate through the engine compartment.

I tested break in motor with rear seat out (full air flow) and boat ran 70mph @4800rpm...rear seat in and locked up jelly tight boat only ran 62mph @4250rpm...installed air scoop in hatch and ran 68mph @4650 rpm...working on top engine mods to go up from here.
